Join us in congratulating Breanna on being chosen for Spotlight! She is doing such an amazing job with brushing and flossing. Great job Bree! Keep up the GREAT hygiene! We spoke with mom to see what she is doing to get such wonderful results.

1. What is Bree's daily oral hygiene routine?

Mornings are rough! We wake up at 6am, so we do our best to get that brushing done! She attends Little Apron Academy and they have been amazing at teaching the kids to brush every day after lunch! She loves brushing her teeth before she goes to bed as part of her nightly routine.

2. Do you have any advice on how to maintain such good oral hygiene for our other families?

Making brushing & flossing part of a daily routine at an early age has really helped us! I’ve always tried to make it FUN. I buy her a new toothbrush often to keep up with her latest Disney obsession! Also, like every other little girl, she LOVES Elsa so I call her teeth ‘princess teeth’. We talk about how we want them to be as pretty and sparkly as Elsa’s! I’ve also never forced brushing upon her. If we skipped a night because it was going to cause a tantrum, then we get back on routine the next night. I’ve never wanted her to associate brushing/flossing with any kind of negativity!

3. What do you love most about Dr. Howard and the A+ team?

When you walk in the door, you immediately feel more than welcome! They are so super patient and accommodating to all children. My daughter honestly asks if she can go to the dentist about once a week because she has such a great experience at Dr. Howard’s office. They really know how to keep the kids relaxed and excited about being there.

Spotlight of the month!!!

Posted November 2, 2016:

A huge congratulations to Leah on being our new spotlight of the month patient. Leah has done such a great job with her hygiene that Dr. Howard picked her as our spotlight patient this month. Below we have a Q & A with Leah's mom to find out how and what Leah is doing to achieve such great results.

1. What is Leah's daily oral hygiene routine?

Leah brushes her teeth twice a day. She also brushes her tongue to get rid of any germs. When she eats something sugary, she rinses her mouth with water to wash away the sugar so she won't get a sugar bug.

2. Do you have any advice on how to maintain such good oral hygiene for our other families?

Leah has a setup of toothbrushes, dental floss and toothpaste both upstairs and downstairs so it is convenient when she needs to brush her teeth. In addition, she has a bag of disposable toothbrushes (that have the toothpaste & pick already included) in the car next to her seat. She uses these in case we run out the door and forget to brush. This way, her teeth are always taken care of even in a time crunch.

3. What do you love most about Dr. Howard and the A+ team?

Dr. Howard and his staff are like friends who know our names and are friendly and caring. The office has a kid friendly environment that makes it enjoyable to go to the dentist. Leah also likes to wear sunglasses as her teeth are being cleaned with the chocolate flavored toothpaste, and is excited to spend her token when she's done!

Spotlight of the Month!!!

We at A+ would like to Congratulate Weston for being our spotlight of the month. Weston is doing such an amazing job with his dental hygiene that Dr. Howard personally picked him as our spotlight patient. We spoke with his mom to see what she is doing to achieve such great results.

1. What is Weston's daily oral hygiene routine?

West brushes his teeth twice daily. He and I typically have a date in the bathroom and take care of the teeth brushing along with some dancing all while doing it....to help make it fun for him. His favorite brushing jam is Justin Timberlake-Can't stop the feeling. We finish things off with some flossing.

2. Do you have any advice on how to maintain such good oral hygiene for our other families?

As with most things and children, fun should be had. He is a huge fan of his electric toothbrush and more importantly his Tom's of Maine Strawberry flavored toothpaste. HE LOVES IT and it makes for a more fun experience for him, thus making it less of a chore to convince him that this routine is cool.

3. What do you love most about Dr. Howard and the A+ team?

I love that every time we visit it's consistently a good time. The laughs, the creativity, the atmosphere...it all makes a difference and provides a great visit. Dr. Howard and his staffs encouraging words and tips, are definitely motivators for us as a family to remain steadfast in keeping up with our oral hygiene as a family.

Spotlight for February:

Posted February 1, 2016:

Great job Gabrielle! She is doing so well keeping her teeth nice and clean. Dr. Howard picked her to be our Spotlight for the month of February. We talked with dad to see what he is doing to get such great results.

1. What is Gabrielle's daily oral hygiene routine?

Gabrielle’s daily oral hygiene routine consists of brushing twice daily as well as flossing and using mouthwash.

2. Do you have any advice on how to maintain such good oral hygiene for our other families?

I would advise parents to try and make dental hygiene as fun as possible and us it as a time to teach about an overall healthier lifestyle. My daughter and I brush our teeth together and while I’m making silly faces that she tries to mimic I’m also reinforcing how important it is for her to brush her teeth, letting her know about the benefits of eating healthier, and also giving her positive feedback so she stays encouraged.

3. What do you love most about Dr. Howard and the A+ team?

I really love the entire team at A+! Dr. Howard does a great job of making my daughter feel comfortable and relaxed. Everyone there is very knowledgeable and I love the unique ways in which they get Gabrielle engaged in the entire process. She often reminds me about how great of a time she has there and she shares her prizes and her experience with her classmates.

Spotlight for January: Carmen

Posted January 1, 2016:

Great job Carmen! She is doing so well keeping her teeth nice and clean. Dr. Howard picked her to be our Spotlight for the month of January. We talked with mom to see what she is doing to get such great results.

1. What is Carmen's daily oral hygiene routine?

Carmen brushes her teeth every morning and night. I will let her brush first then I go behind her and brush also. If She wants something sweet in between that time we brush after that.

2. Do you have any advice on how to maintain such good oral hygiene for our other families?

Carmen loves the hello kitty mouth wash that she is able to squirt in a cup on her own. She looks forward to doing that after she brushes her teeth with her favorite sparkle toothpaste!

3. What do you love most about Dr. Howard and the A+ team?

We love how friendly, honest, and approachable Dr . Howard and the entire team is. From the moment we walk in and feel welcome until the moment we leave and carmen enjoys every bit of it and looks forward to going back!

Spotlight for December: Abby, Elizabeth and Caroline

Posted December 1, 2015:

Great job Abby, Elizabeth Caroline! They are doing so well keeping their teeth nice and clean, Dr. Howard picked them to be our Spotlight for the month of December. We talked with mom to see what they are doing to get such great results.

1. What are Abby, Elizabeth Caroline's daily oral hygiene routines?

The girls brush their teeth twice a day and floss their teeth at night. I brush first, and then the girls get to have a turn. They love being involved in the process and enjoy using the fun neon flossers!

2. Do you have any advice on how to maintain such good oral hygiene for our other families?

Invest in the Sonicare Kids! It has worked wonders for our 6 year old Elizabeth. Abby and Caroline are almost old enough to use it. We talk to our girls about dental hygiene and its importance, stay away from juice and sticky candy, and keep sweets to a minimum.

3. What do you love most about Dr. Howard and the A+ team?

I love the pure joy surrounding the entire A+ team. From wearing the sunglasses to earning stickers and special prizes, my girls are always at ease and truly enjoy going to the dentist!

Spotlight for November: Elizabeth and Anna

Posted November 5, 2015:

Great job Elizabeth and Anna! They are doing so well keeping their teeth nice and clean, Dr. Howard picked them to be our Spotlight for the month of November. We talked with mom to see what they are doing to get such great results. We also wanted to Wish Anna a very Happy Birthday!

1. What are Elizabeth and Anna's daily oral hygiene routines?

Every night, they brush their teeth first by themselves and then get a parent to finish up. It’s all about teamwork! We try to brush in the morning as well, but sometimes the morning rush makes that hard. We also try to stay away from sticky candies for the most part.

2. Do you have any advice on how to maintain such good oral hygiene for our other families?

For us, it’s all about routine. We have a pattern that we follow every night at bedtime. The girls know that after we read books, it’s time for brushing teeth and then bed. It also helps to have fun colored toothbrushes and strawberry flavored toothpaste! :)

3. What do you love most about Dr. Howard and the A+ team?

First, we love that Dr. Howard has such an inviting atmosphere in his office. My girls have never complained about going to the dentist and actually look forward to it. Something I never did as a kid!

Second, I love how involved Dr. Howard and his team are in the community. Just the other day, I ran into them visiting Elizabeth’s school. Dr. Howard is a great supporter of the local schools and he has really been a champion in getting other parents involved through The Wave of Excellence group. The group has already had a positive impact on the community and you can feel the energy and excitement about the future of schools in Smyrna.

Spotlight for October: Brynn

Posted September 30, 2015:

Great job Brynn! She is doing so well keeping her teeth nice and clean, Dr. Howard picked her to be our Spotlight for the month of October. We talked with mom to see what they are doing to get such great results.

What are Brynn's daily oral hygiene routines?

Brynn brushes her teeth in the morning and at night. Her mom helps her get those hard to reach areas in her mouth. We also floss with different colored floss sticks in the shapes of animals. She enjoys picking out a different animal each day. She also rinses with ACT for kids cavity prevention rinse.

2. Do you have any advice on how to maintain such good oral hygiene for our other families?

We come from a family of dentists so we have always valued good oral hygiene. We make brushing a game by singing a song or we see if she can brush for a set amount of time. We also switch brushes every couple of weeks so she looks forward to that. I try to let her have some independence by letting her do some of the brushing and flossing so she learns how to do it on her own.

3. What do you love most about Dr. Howard and the A+ team?

Brynn has been a patient of Dr. Howard's since she was 18 months. On our first visit, well actually, on every visit for the first 3 years, Brynn was afraid of everything. She didn't want him in her mouth at all! She was afraid of the unknown and we went through many crying and screaming fits! Dr. Howard was patient throughout all those episodes and continued to talk her through the cleanings. It has paid off! She now looks forward to the smiling faces that greet her in the waiting area to the sunglasses, stickers, cartoons, and all the other perks at Dr. Howard's office. She brags to her friends about her visit and proudly shows off her prizes. I am pleased with the care there and look forward to many more years.

Spotlight for September: Reagan and Taylor

Posted September 4, 2015:

Great job Reagan and Taylor! They are doing so well with keeping their teeth nice and clean, Dr. Howard picked them to our Spotlights for the month of September. We talked with mom to see what they are doing to get such great results.

1. What are Reagan and Taylor’s daily oral hygiene routines?

Taylor and Reagan brush their teeth at least 2 times per day every day. Once in the morning after they have eaten their breakfast and once in the evening before they go to bed. Sometimes they will brush their teeth mid-day too, just depends what all is going on.

2. Do you have any advice on how to maintain such good oral hygiene for other families?

If my girls are giving me a hard time about brushing their teeth, I always ask them "What would Dr. Howard think if you didn't brush your teeth?". I tell them how important it is to take care of their teeth so they have beautiful sparkly smiles and that will keep the "sugar bugs" away! Usually makes them smile and they want Dr. Howard to be proud of their oral hygiene. My girls also see my husband and I brushing our teeth throughout the day so I think it is important for them to see we are doing the exact same thing and that we go to the dentist too.

3. What do you love most about Dr. Howard and the A+ team?

I absolutely love Dr. Howard and the entire A+ team, as do my girls!! Dr. Howard is so kind and does such a great job with the children and making them feel comfortable. The entire A+ team is wonderful and everyone is so kind! The office is fun and cheery, especially with Princess Roni! She makes the visit so fun and my girls just adore her! She has the sweetest personality and can bring a smile to anyone's face!!

Spot light for August: Caleb & Abigale

Posted August 14, 2015:

Great job Caleb & Abigale! They are doing so well with keeping their teeth nice and clean, Dr. Howard picked them to be spot lights for the month of August. We talked with mom to see what they are doing to get such great results.

1. What are Caleb and Abigail daily brushing and flossing routines?

Caleb and Abby get to brush their own teeth in the morning, with mommy or daddy nearby to make sure they're doing a good job. At night, my husband and I floss their teeth and brush them using a Sonicare toothbrush.

2. Do you have any advice on how to maintain good oral hygiene for other families with 2 children?

Someone told us once that we should be brushing their teeth until they can write cursive. That has stuck with us! Leaving plenty of time for flossing and brushing is key so you don't have to rush. Avoiding chewy, gummy snacks helps, too.

3. What do you love most about A+ pediatric Dentistry of Atlanta?

We love Dr. Howard and the entire staff! Everyone is so friendly and kind. It really is fun to go to the dentist!

Spotlight for July: Morgan

Posted July 17, 2015:

Great job Morgan! Morgan and her parents are doing such a great job keeping everything nice and clean. Dr. Howard has selected Morgan as spotlight for the month of July. We talked to mom to see what they are doing to get such great results.

1. What are Morgna’s daily oral hygiene routines?

We brush Morgan's teeth twice a day, in the morning and at night, and floss her teeth with a flosser at night. We are the primary brushers since she is just 4 years old, but on occasion after we are finished, she "brushes" and "flosses" herself.

2. Do you have any advice on how to maintain such good oral hygiene for other families?

We try to make it fun for Morgan so it becomes something she looks forward to everyday. It has really become a natural part of her daily routine. We have even made up songs to sing while brushing and really emphasize the importance of clean teeth. We let her watch us brush and floss and allow her to practice herself. We also do not allow Morgan to have fruit snacks or gummy candy of any kind. She is very aware of what is good (or not so good) for her teeth. Lastly, we started taking Morgan to the dentist early - when she turned one. Experiencing the dentist at a young age has really helped her become comfortable and look forward to her check-ups.

3. What do you love most about Dr. Howard and the A+ team?

From the beginning, we have loved the care Morgan has received from both Dr. Howard and his staff. The environment is so friendly and welcoming. Morgan is always excited when it is time to see Dr. Howard and refers to him as "her" dentist. Everyone is super knowledgeable and really go above and beyond to make sure each child feels special. It is evident that the entire A+ team really enjoys what they do. We couldn't ask for a better dentist!

Spotlight for June: Addy & Avery

Posted June 26, 2015:

Addy and Avery are doing so well with their oral hygiene. They are Dr. Howard's pick for spotlight for June! We are so excited at how well they are doing, so we asked mom a few questions to see how they do it.

1. What are their daily brushing routines like?

The girls brush every morning and before bed each night. They've been using tooth brushes that light up at the press of a button for one minute. We allow them to brush by themselves for one minute. Once the light goes off, they know it's time for Mom or Dad to follow up.

2. Do you have any advice on how to maintain good oral hygiene for other families with two small children?

We've tried to make good oral hygiene habits a normal part of our children's lives by being consistent and leading by example. It also helps us get the girls on board by allowing them to choose their toothpaste flavor.

3. What does your family love most about Dr. Howard and the A+ team?

We love that Dr. Howard and the A+ team take the time to help children become comfortable with the dentist office visit experience. My girls get excited about their appointments and look forward to interacting with the friendly A+ staff. We also appreciate the copies of Howard University's magazine in the waiting area....Go Bison!

Spotlight for May: Owen

Posted May 1, 2015:

Way to go Owen! He is doing such a great job with his brushing and flossing. Dr. Howard has selected him to be spotlight for May. We asked mom a few questions to see what they are doing to get such great results.

1. What are Owen’s daily brushing and flossing routines?

Owen, and his brother Henry (age 2), brush their teeth twice a day. We brush in the morning after breakfast before going to preschool, and then at night after bath time before they read books and go to bed. Our goal is to floss every night, but it usually works out to be every other night.

2. Do you have any advice on how you maintain good oral hygiene?

We thoroughly brush Owen and Henry’s teeth for at least a minute, and then oftentimes let them brush their teeth themselves if they ask. They stand on their little stools at the sink so they could watch the teeth brushing in the mirror. We like to use a battery-operated toothbrush (the fun characters that they like – like Thomas the Tank Engine) and we let Owen choose the toothpaste he likes. We bought a lot of different flavors before finding one he likes. When we first started to brush their teeth and they were not very cooperative, we would tell them that we had to brush the bugs off of their teeth and that made them more eager to let us brush. We also would lay them on their back on the floor with our legs over their arms to pin them down and keep them still and that seemed to work well. Once they were pinned down, they didn’t fuss about it. (That was when they really didn’t want us to brush their teeth.) Since then, it has been pretty easy and they are all set with the routine.

3. What do you love most about Dr. Howard and the A+ team?

Dr. Howard and his staff are great with kids. Owen loves going there…from drawing on the chalkboard in the waiting room, to getting his teeth cleaned while watching Thomas The Tank Engine, to getting the cool stickers and a special treat out of the prize machines! Every visit is a great experience! It is such a kid friendly, unintimidating environment and everyone is so friendly and personable. We love Dr. Howard and his staff!

Spot light for April: Paige and Finn

Posted April 2, 2015:

WAY TO GO PAIGE & FINN! They are doing such a great job with their oral hygiene Dr. Howard has choose them to be our spot lights for the month of April. We asked mom a few questions to see just how they do it.

1. What are Finn and Paige's daily brushing and flossing routines?

Finn and Paige brush their teeth every morning and every night. We have made it a part of their daily routine. Before we get dressed in the morning we go potty and then immediately afterwards brush our teeth. At night, after bath and before we put our pajamas on we brush our teeth followed by flossing. We incorporate counting and singing a song or two to help them achieve thorough brushing. We always try and let them brush on their own first and then follow up with "teamwork" brushing where mom or dad helps. Not every night and every morning is perfect but we always try to circle back around and get the job done!

2. Having young twins what is your advice for other families with small children on how to maintain good oral hygiene?

We try to make brushing fun. I let them choose their toothbrush and toothpaste. We sing songs and count during brushing and that helps to distract them and pass the time. We limit juice and candy, etc. This is especially difficult around the holidays and special events and on those days we really go after the "sugar bugs" on their teeth.

3. What do you love most about Dr. Howard and the A+ team?

We love EVERYTHING about Dr. Howard and the A+ team.

We love the office atmosphere-every employee is happy and smiles. There is such a contagious vibe in the office. Finn had a terrible fall that resulted in losing one of his front teeth. Dr. Howard met us at the office late on a Friday night and not only calmed Finn, but put all of my worries to rest. His gift of caring for children (and parents) is the best in the Atlanta area.

Spotlight for March:

Posted March 6, 2015:

Tommy is Dr. Howard's spotlight for the month of March. We asked his mom to give us some insight to see how they are doing such a great job.

1. What are Tommy’s daily oral hygiene routines?

Brush in the late morning, after snacks. Floss all touching teeth and brush every night before bed. We also do an extra brushing pretty soon after eating raisins or dried cranberries. I generally sing a fun song, like the ABC's, while we brush so that he's entertained.

2. Do you have any advice on how to maintain such good oral hygiene for other families with a 2 year olds?

We followed Dr. Howard's advice to make it a "teamwork" event. Tommy gets to floss and brush himself first, then mommy or daddy does the real work. He's used to the routine and is generally pretty good about it. We also don't give him much processed sugar foods or gummy foods. (He's WAY healthier than mommy and daddy are.)

3. What do you love most about Dr. Howard and the A+ team?

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Howard and his team. In fact, when looking for a pediatrician, I asked Dr. Howard for a recommendation for a Ped. that was "just like him." Dr. Howard, Miss Ronnie and the other staff make us feel special, excited to see us, and we thoroughly enjoy our time in the office. This last visit was Tommy's first time in the "big chair" with lights and equipment. He sported the cool sunglasses y'all gave him to wear and handled it like a champ - thanks to the gentle touch and fun demeanor of the hygenist and Dr. Howard. I've referred several friends to A+ because we love y'all SOOOOO much.

Spotlight for February: Moriah & Khloe

Posted March 3, 2015:

Dr. Howard has choose Moriah and Khole as our spotlights for the month of February because they are doing such a great job with their oral hygiene. We asked mom and she gave us some helpful tips on how they do it.

1. what are Moriah's and Khloe's daily oral hygiene routines like?

Moriah and Khloe brush their teeth in the morning and before bedtime (with help from Mommy or Daddy). We floss at night before bedtime. And we make sure that we visit Dr. Howard at least twice a year for cleaning and an exam.

2. Do you have any advice on maintaining good oral hygiene for other parents with 2 small children?

My advice to parents with 2 small kids is to make sure that you create a routine that works well for your family. Children are sometimes unpredictable but they love consistency so just make brushing a fun time for them by singing a song while you brush or letting them brush first. Often times we will allow the girls to brush their teeth by themselves first and then we go back over their teeth to make sure it's done correctly.

3. What does your family love most about A+ Pediatric Dentistry of Atlanta?

We love Dr. Howard's bedside manner the most! He works so well with the girls and he always takes his time with the girls to make sure that they feel comfortable.

Spotlight for January: Trevor

Posted January 21, 2015:

Trevor is doing such a great job with his oral hygiene we asked his mom a few questions to see how they do it.

1. What is his daily oral hygiene routines like?

He brushes his teeth in the morning, and we floss and then brush them at night before bed. We also stopped his gummy vitamins.

2. Do you have any advice on maintaining good oral hygiene for other parents with smaller children?

Trevor has very tight front teeth and cried for a while when we flossed. I bought some floss made specifically for tight, sensitive teeth, and that has helped a lot. He also does better when we stay on our routine and don’t skip a night.

3. What does your family love most about A+ Pediatric Dentistry of Atlanta?

We are very happy with the atmosphere, and he actually enjoys the visit! Everyone on staff is warm and friendly.

December's Spotlight

Posted December 9, 2014:

Congratulations to Azariah our Spotlight of December! Azariah and his mom have done such a great job with his oral hygiene! We asked mom what are their normal brushing routines.

1. What is his oral hygiene routines like?

Azariah's oral routine is basically the golden rule. I brush Azariah's teeth twice a day. Once in the morning and then right before I settle him in for bed.

2. Do you have any advice on maintaining good oral hygiene for other parents with special needs children?

My advice for any parent caring for a special needs child is to stay on top of the oral hygiene of your child. I had a problem once when he was born. I was not told he must have his mouth rinsed after his respiratory treatment and he had one tooth that became discolored. Well, from that day on. I was on top of his dental hygiene and never had a problem like that since. If you have an issue, you can turn it around. I know a special needs child is hard work but keeping on top of your child's dental care is just as important as given him or her medication.

3. What does your family love most about A+ Pediatric Dentistry of Atlanta?

I love A+ Pediatric Dentistry's staff and Dr. Howard's patience and genuine concern for my child and I. He always is positive and encourages me. He makes me feel like I do a job well done concerning Azariah. He took care of Azariah despite his medical conditions and I will always be grateful for that.

November's Spotlight!

Posted November 6, 2014:

Congratulations Madeline! You are our A+ Spotlight for November! Dr. Howard personally chose Madeline to be our Spotlight of The Month. We asked mom for some helpful tips on maintaining good oral hygiene.

1. What are Madeline’s oral hygiene routines like during the school year?

We make sure to brush teeth after breakfast and before bed everyday. Mornings are always rushed before school, but our routine includes brushing. Either mom or dad brushes her teeth first, mentioning all the parts of the mouth we're brushing (top and bottom, front and back, inside and outside), and allowing her to spit at will. Then it's Madeleine's turn and we reiterate the parts of her mouth. She then gets to wash off the toothbrush, drink some water, then turn off the water herself.

2. Do you have any advice on maintaining good oral hygiene for other parents with younger children?

Routines are big in our household. If it's part of a daily routine, then it's not optional or negotiable; it's just a part of your day.

3. What does your family love most about A+ Pediatric Dentistry of Atlanta?

We really appreciate the no-stress atmosphere. The hygienists and Dr. Howard are always positive and encouraging, which is so important for kids in their first experiences at the dentist.

October's Spotlight!

Posted October 3, 2014:

Congratulations to our Spotlight of October! Kynnedi has done such a great job with her oral hygiene! We asked mom some of their brushing routines.

What is her oral hygiene routines like during the school year?

Kynnedi and I have made oral hygiene a priority because we understand how it can affect our overall health. Our routine, however, is pretty simple. We brush both mornings and evenings and floss only at night. We follow up with alcohol free mouthwash because Kynnedi loves the sound of gargling.

Do you have any advice on maintaining good oral hygiene for other parents with younger children?

My advice to parents with younger children about maintaining good oral hygiene is to be consistent and have fun doing it. When I was primarily brushing Kynnedi’s teeth, we would always sing songs or make up songs about brushing and flossing. Now that I am mostly just supervising her as she’s brushing I try to lead by example by brushing along with her and encouraging her good habits.

What does your family love most about A+ Pediatric Dentistry of Atlanta?

We love A+ Pediatric Dentistry because it is such a warm, welcoming environment. Kynnedi is three and we came for her first appointment when she turned one. Interestingly enough, A+ Pediatric Dentistry was celebrating its one year anniversary at the time, so it’s like we are growing together. Dr. Howard is awesome with all of his patients; especially his little ones like Kynnedi, who may be a little more apprehensive about visiting the dentist. She now loves going to the dentist and that is really just a testament to the professionalism, courtesy, and care of Dr. Howard and his incredible team.

SPOTLIGHT OF THE MONTH: Atticus, Sadie, Sydney, and Tucker!!!

Posted September 10, 2014:

Congratulations Atticus, Sadie, Sydney, and Tucker!!! Dr. Howard has chosen you as the Spotlight for September! We are so proud of you for doing such great job on brushing your teeth. We asked mom what are some tips that they use at home.

1. What are their oral hygiene routines like during the school year?

Generally, they brush twice a day and floss every night. However, the youngest always likes to brush more often whenever she gets a new tube or flavor of toothpaste! Their oral hygiene routines are the same year-round, because you can't take a break from caring for your teeth!

2. What advise would you give to working parents who wants to help their children maintain good oral hygiene, but have to juggle their career and school-aged children?

Unfortunately, there's no easy way out of this one. I feel teaching your children to take responsibility for their own health care is one of the most important things we can teach our children. Encouraging your children to take care of their teeth, while at the same time showing them how, has to be a priority.

3. What does your family love most about A+ Pediatric Dentistry of Atlanta?

Dr. Howard and his wonderful staff, of course! Their joy is contagious!

SPOTLIGHT OF THE MONTH: Anay & Meera

Posted April 4, 2014:

Congratulations to our Spot lights of April! They have done such a great job with their oral hygiene. We asked mom some of their brushing routines.

What are Anay's and Meera's brushing and flossing routines?

Anay & Meera both brush at least 2x's a day, sometimes 3, with their Kids Sonicare Toothbrush. They love using the kids plakers toothpicks, at least once a day, because of the fun shapes & characters.

What are some helpful hints and tricks you would give to other parents?

Because of the young age of my children, I feel like it needs to be fun for them to like brushing! The good thing is that there's a lot of toothpastes & toothbrushes w/favorite characters they love! So why not!!?? They love using the electric toothbrush now because they see how me & my husband use our own Sonicare toothbrush, and so they want to be like mommy & daddy ! Hahaha! Which became very encouraging overall for them!

What do you love most about our office?

I love the office because EVERYONE makes it about the patient (my kids) & makes it comfortable for the nervous parents also. Dr. Howard seems to have a great passion for what he does, thus making it rewarding & comfortable for the parents, that our children are under great care!

SPOTLIGHT OF THE MONTH: DANIEL, DAVID, AND LUCAS

Posted February 5, 2014:

Congratulations to Daniel, David, and Lucas! Dr. Howard have chosen you guys to be the Spotlight of the Month! Our team cannot be more excited for you three boys! Due to their fantastic oral hygiene, I had to know how they are able to do it. I got a chance to speak to Mrs. Monica and she revealed some of the secrets to keeping good oral hygiene for her children.

In a household with younger children and a pre-teen child, how are you able to get them to practice good oral hygiene?

All we do is talk about the effects of not practicing good oral hygiene and how difficult it is to treat oral problems. It's a lot better to be preventive that reactive. With the little ones, we tell them cavities are germs that live in their mouths. Just like we don't like germs on our bodies, we don't want germs in our mouths. We did the same for our older child too. We also have the Sonicare for Kids toothbrush for all three children.

What are some advice you can give to other parents that can help them encourage their children to keep up with their oral hygiene?

We're very honest with the boys. Our parents were so focused on dental hygiene while we were growing up. We have cavities and we show them exactly what have to be done to prevent it.

What do you love most about our office?

The staff is so loving. They're also fun and always smiling. You don't feel rushed at Dr. Howard's office; in health care nowadays, it's pretty common to feel rushed. Dr. Howard and his staff takes time to answer our questions. It's a warm environment. He talks to our children and explain everything in a way that does not scare them.

We cannot be more proud of you guys! Keep it up!

Happy Birthday, Melanie!

What a great time!!!! Go A+ Team!!! So...who's joining us next time for karaoke?

SPOTLIGHT OF THE MONTH: BAILEY AND BRYCE

Posted January 9, 2014:

Welcome to 2014, A+ family! Dr. Howard would like to give a high five to Bailey and Bryce for being our spotlight of the month for January. I would also like to thank Bailey and Bryce's mom for allowing me to ask her some questions.

What are Bailey and Bryce's brushing and flossing routines?

We brush with Bryce and Bailey twice a day. Bailey just turned three, so we still do most of her brushing for her. We allow her to try to brush herself and then we follow up to make sure they are clean. We use the cute flossers that Dr. Howard shared with us to help encourage flossing. Bryce is almost six and very independent, so we allow him to brush his teeth by himself in the morning and we do the brushing at night.

What are some helpful hints and tricks you would like to give to other parents?

When they were both very young, we would sing a song while they brushed. I made it up to the tune of Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star. It makes brushing fun and, also, makes sure they keep brushing until the end of the song. Also, we stress the importance of having healthy teeth-not only for appearance sake, but so they can continue to enjoy all the yummy foods they love.

What do you love most about our office?

We love the attention that your office gives each child. I really think it's important to make the children feel comfortable and enjoy visiting the dentist office. The office is very child friendly from the décor to the toys and equipment. Our children always look forward to seeing Dr. Howard and the staff and, of course, getting a prize after a good checkup!

KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK, BAILEY AND BRYCE! DR. HOWARD AND THE A+ TEAM ARE VERY PROUD OF YOU GUYS!

Congratulations, Ava, Dallas, and Evan! The spotlight is on you three for the month of December! You've done amazing jobs keeping your teeth beautiful! Dr. Howard and the A+ team is extremely proud. I was able to pick Mrs. Erika's brain and got some good advice from her.

What are your children's brushing and flossing routines?

The kids brush each morning and at night before bed. Flossing is made fun with colorful neon Plackers 1st Flossers recommended by Dr. Howard!

What are some helpful hints and tricks you would like to give to other parents?

I'd love other parents to be aware that the sticky fruit snacks that kids love so much aren't so great for their teeth. We had a challenge in the beginning, but we've incorporated crunchy fruits and veggies into their snacks. Not only are they fun to eat, but clean their teeth in the process!

What do you love most about our office?

What I love most about A+ Pediatric Dentistry is the professionalism displayed in the office, yet it's never stuffy or pretentious. I can tell there is genuine love for each and every kid that they care for. The Ward kids love it here and it's never a fight at exam time. Whew!

Keep up the great work, Ava, Dallas, and Evan!

SPOTLIGHT OF THE MONTH: ISAIAH

Posted October 2, 2013:

Our Spotlight of the Month for October is the wonderful young man Isaiah. Dr. Howard and the A+ Team is so appreciative and proud to know that Isaiah has been so active in keeping great oral hygiene! Mr. Michael was gracious enough to answer some interview questions.

What are the oral hygiene routines like during the school year?

REGULAR. I do inquire [with Isaiah] every few days to ensure clean breath, teeth and gums.

What advise would you give to working parents who wants to help their children maintain good oral hygiene, but have to juggle their career and school-aged children?

Use technology. Sync their calendar with yours. Most kids have smartphones as nice as their parents. Inputting critical reminders has been a lifesaver in our home. For example, the pop up reminders helps remind Isaiah to floss, brush, and limit sweets. It can also be used to remind them to be sure rinse, toothpaste, new brushes etc... Technology is a great way to stay motivated and consistent with pop up reminders and re-stock requests.

What does your family love most about A+ Pediatric Dentistry of Atlanta?

The warmth, energy and they remember us too. It is always nice to feel at home, even at the dentist office!

CONGRATULATIONS, ISAIAH! KEEP UP THE WONDERFUL WORK!

Dr. Howard wants to give a big thank you to Zoe and Noa for being so wonderful to their teeth! Dr. Howard and the A+ Team wants to congratulate you two for being our Spotlight of the Month! You have done everything possible to keep your teeth strong and healthy. I was able to get an interview with Mrs. Yolanda. She was an absolute delight!

What are their oral hygiene routines like during the school year?

During the school year, the children brush in the morning and night. I do my best to always go back and check on them.

What advise would you give to working parents who wants to help their children maintain good oral hygiene, but have to juggle their career and school-aged children?

My advise is to monitor the snacks as best as possible. Be sure to cut out the majority of sweets from the diet. Send fruits with your children to school instead of sugary snacks. Find a toothpaste and mouthwash that the children likes will help with the regimen because it's hard to get them to brush their teeth if they aren't happy with their oral hygiene products. Always check on the children to make sure their brushing and flossing properly.

What does your family love most about A+ Pediatric Dentistry of Atlanta?

There's a combination of things that the children loves. My children love Dr. Howard. They find him easy to interact with and not intimidating. The office is very kid-friendly. There are a lot of interactive tools for children, such as the television and toys in the lobby. In the back, there's movies playing to distract my children during their cleanings. The reward at the end of the visit is something they really look forward to each visit. The staff is very friendly. They are always smiling and greeting the children which makes them feel very special.

CONGRATULATIONS, ZOE AND NOA! DR. HOWARD AND THE A+ TEAM ARE VERY, VERY PROUD OF YOU!

SPOTLIGHT OF THE MONTH: ARCHER AND ANDERSEN

Posted June 1, 2013:

Dr. Howard and the A+ team wants to recognize Andersen and Archer for being Spotlight of the Month! Congratulations, Andersen and Archer! Dr. Howard could not have been more proud of you guys! Starting young helps maintain a lifetime of good oral hygiene habits and their parents made sure that they are on the road to success. Also, Mrs. Tasha and Mr. Anthony, the A+ team wants to thank you guys too because you are the ones making sure that they keep up with these good habits!

What are your brushing routine for your 1 years old? for your 3 years old?

Andersen: We brush morning and night with Tom's of Maine strawberry toothpaste. Andersen says it is spicy! We also floss (or 'flaw' as Andersen pronounces it) in the evenings, too.

Archer: We brush morning and night with Aquafresh training toothpaste, and after any asthma inhaler medications, too. Archer hums while his teeth are getting brushed.

Do you have any advice on maintaining good oral hygiene for other parents with younger children?

Be consistent with oral care, even when the child is sleepy or otherwise uncooperative. Good habits established early will continue as the child matures into independence.

What do your family love most about the office?

We love the kid-friendly staff and environment. It is wonderful that the children can play safely while the staff and parents interact.

WE ARE VERY PROUD OF YOU, ARCHER AND ANDERSEN!

SPOTLIGHT OF THE MONTH: COLE AND CADE

Posted May 1, 2013:

The A+ Team would like to give a round of applause to two wonderful patients. Congratulations for being our Spotlight of the Month patients, Cole and Cade! Dr. Howard wants you two to know that he is very proud of you guys for taking wonderful care of those beautiful sets of teeth! Mrs. Melissa have raised two fantastic boys and have helped them learn how to maintain great care of their oral hygiene. I was able to obtain some secrets on how her boys kept up with super great oral hygiene.

What are Cole and Cade's brushing and flossing routines?

Cole and Cade's brushing and flossing routines are brushing in the morning after getting dressed. We floss and brush at bedtime. We are now at a point where we brush for them and they get a turn to brush too.

What are some helpful hints and tricks you would like to give to other parents?

Start young. We started brushing with the baby soft toothbrushes when the boys were each about 4 months old. This allow them to get used to it early. When Cade was just under 2 year old, we did go through a time when he screamed and cried about it; but, we just brushed his teeth anyway. After about a week, he stopped crying and was just as happy as could be to get up on the stool to have his teeth brushed. We also let the boys pick out their own toothbrushes. They are always excited when we go to get new ones. For floss, we use the DenTek Kids Fun Flossers and they make it so much easier to floss in a child’s small mouth.

What do you love most about our office?

We love everything about Dr. Howard's office. Everyone is friendly and takes the time to make sure our boys are comfortable. The boys love that they can pick out something to watch while Dr. Howard works. The treasure tower is also a big hit with the boys. We love that Dr. Howard makes it fun and comfortable for them and makes a big deal out of the good stuff. For example, when Cole stopped sucking his thumb, Dr. Howard gave him lots of positive encouragement.

Congratulations, Cole and Cade! The entire A+ Team is so proud of you two boys!

SPOTLIGHT OF THE MONTH: Gavrielle and Natanella

Posted April 1, 2013:

All children deserves praises for keeping their teeth healthy and strong by eating a good diet, brushing, and flossing. Dr. Howard would like to congratulate Gavrielle and Natanella being our Spotlight of the month patients! I was able to interview Mrs. Ariel to get a better understanding on how she gets her children to maintain such beautiful, healthy smiles.

What are Gavrielle and Natanella's brushing and flossing routines?

They brush and floss 2 times daily.

How do you manage to get your two younger toddlers to maintain good oral health and love doing it? Any tips for other parents with younger children?

As a kid, I had bad experiences with cavities and lots of dental treatments, so I don't wont my kids to go through it too. It all starts with educating your kids with good food and good hygiene. I never have soda in my house! When I have a hard time with the brushing, I tell stories about [my experience with my teeth] when I was their age and it keeps them entertained. We are also using a timer that blinks a green light for 2 minutes. When the timer is done, it turns red. It gives the kids one minute to brush on their own, then it is mom or dad's turn to help brush their teeth for the last minute.

What do you love most about our office?

The place is very child friendly. All of the staff are smiling and great with kids. Also, Dr.Howard is wonderful!!!

Congratulations, Gavrielle and Natanella!

Keep up the good work!

SPOTLIGHT OF THE MONTH: Kingston, Mya, and Kairon

Posted February 1, 2013:

The A+ Team would like to congratulate Kingston, May, and Kairon for being this month's Family Spotlight! Thank you for keeping those smiles healthy and beautiful! There's nothing that makes Dr. Howard happier than when he gets to see children excited to maintain fantastic oral hygiene!

In a household with young children and a teenager, how are you able to get them to practice good oral hygiene?

We always make sure that each child has whatever kind of toothpaste and toothbrush they prefer. Every child picks out their own toothpaste and toothbrush. This is especially useful with the younger kids. They have so many different characters to choose from. Right now they each have about six different toothbrushes. They pick angry birds to brush with in the morning and transformers in the evening. Since they all get to use whatever they want, they do not resist the oral hygiene routine.

What are some advice you can give to other parents to help them encourage their children to keep up with good oral hygiene?

I think the best thing parents can do to encourage good oral hygiene is to make it fun. My kids like to think about killing germs when they brush their teeth. When they are done, I pretend to check their mouth for germs. Sometimes, I find some germs hiding in their cheeks and they run back to kill those too! My teenager responds better to vanity.

What do you love most about our office?

The thing I love most about A+ Pediatric Dentistry of Atlanta is definitely the staff. Everyone goes out of their way to make kids of all ages feel comfortable. I can tell that they are all genuinely concerned about the children's well-being. Since we started coming to this practice, my kids actually want to go to the dentist. They are not nervous at all and want Dr. Howard to be proud of them. I think it is hilarious when they ask when they can go back. Kingston, May, and Kairon definitely deserve an A+ from the A+ family!!! Keep up the good work!

Was the Candy Buy Back party another attempt from Dr. Howard to keep the children’s teeth cavity-free? Was it a charitable event? Or could it be his last chance to party before baby Joy’s birth? It definitely hit three birds with one stone! Dr. Howard happily bought back and accumulated 90 pounds of the chewy, gooey goodies from the parents and children to keep everyone’s teeth healthy. Also, the A+ team completed all of the care packages that were shipped to our country’s brave troops overseas. Thank you to all of our generous parents and children that helped us meet our buy-back goal and had the best after-Halloween party!

HEAR FROM OUR PATIENTS!!!!!

Posted March 9, 2011:

"My 6 year old daughter had her first appointment today with Dr. Howard. Let me just say it wa the BEST experience we have ever had at a dentist office by far. First of all....He let Jennifer pretend to be the dentist and he was the patient and he showed and explained what he was going to do. As a parent I was allowed to go back and see the room and the staff showed me around. In the waiting area there is a window so you can actually watch what is going on without disrupting the doctor. I was a happy Mom. If you want your child to grow up and not be afraid of the dentist (like most of us are) and to have a healthy image of teeth care and not freak out every time you mention the dentist......THIS IS THE PLACE YOU NEED TO TAKE THEM. We have finally found a dentist that feels like family! Thank you Dr. Howard and your wonderful staff! Nina Stephens"
